In Office Procedures
Examination and cleaning of the ear using an operating microscope is performed as part of the treatment of ear canal infections, skin disorders affecting the ear canal, and as part of the assessment of the ear drum and middle ear disease.
Endoscopic visualisation of the nasal chamber, sinuses and voice box is an important part of the assessment of many sino-nasal and laryngeal conditions.
In some adults, it may be appropriate to drain fluid from the middle ear or insert a grommet, under local anaesthetic as an in-office procedure.
In-office procedures are charged in addition to the consultation fee. These procedures attract a Medicare ‘item number’ and a proportion of the charge can be claimed back from Medicare.
